COMMUNITY ACQUIS and Turkey

Turkey still does not take part in the Fifth Framework Programme in Research and Technological Development. The October 2002 report emphasises that Turkey has made some progress in the field of science and research.

The European strategy covers the sectors of research, telecommunications and the information society.

Research and technological development

In Turkey, most scientific and research activities are carried out in universities and public-sector research institutes. In June 2002, the Turkish Grand National Assembly approved a law allowing full participation in the Sixth EC Framework Programme on Research and Technological Development.

Telecommunications

In January 2000, a new law on telecommunications was adopted.

Information society

Postal services

No progress has been made as regards liberalisation of the postal services market.
